Who we are
This website and the NBC Devotional app are run by the Publications Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash), and optionally phone number, birthday, church and address.
- Orders: the books you buy, delivery or pickup details, and payment status. We never see or store your card number: payments are processed by Flutterwave.
- Reading activity: which ebooks and devotionals you open, your reading streak and the devices you use, so we can enforce your licence and show your progress.
- Messages: what you send us through the Contact us page.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and the notification token of your device, used for security, fraud prevention and to send messages you asked for.
How we use it
- To deliver your orders and give you access to the books and devotionals you have paid for.
- To send order receipts, reminders you turn on, and notices about your account.
- To send SMS or push messages such as birthday wishes and news. You can opt out at any time with the stop link or in the app.
- To protect the site against abuse and to meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We share only what is needed with service providers acting for us: Flutterwave (payments), our SMS provider, Firebase (push notifications) and our hosting provider. We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Account details are kept while your account is open. Order records are kept as long as the law requires for accounting. When you delete your account we remove your personal details; records we must keep are kept without your name and contact details.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct, export or delete your information. You can delete your account yourself from My account, or write to us through the Contact us page. If you are in Nigeria this includes your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act; if you are elsewhere, your local data protection law applies.
Children
Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Parents and Sunday school teachers may buy books for children.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, remember your currency and language, and keep your cart. See our Cookie policy.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and show the date at the top.
Advertising in the app
The NBC Devotionals app can show ads served by Google AdMob. Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some US states) the app asks for your consent first through Google's consent form, and on iPhone it asks for your permission to track. You can change your choice at any time in Settings > Ad privacy choices, or in your phone's settings (reset or delete the advertising ID).
AdMob and Google may use your device's advertising ID and information about how you use the app to show and measure ads. We do not give advertisers your name, email address or phone number. We never show ads inside the devotional, book, Bible or hymn reading screens, at sign-in, in the cart or at checkout, we do not show ads to members who tell us they are under 13, and members with an active devotional plan may have ads switched off. Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Protecting copyrighted content
Books and devotionals are licensed to your account. Your name and email are shown faintly over protected pages, and an invisible identifier of your account is placed in the text so that copies that are shared without permission can be traced. Screenshots and screen recording are blocked on protected screens, and offline copies are stored encrypted on your device and deleted when you sign out or lose access.
